Rebecca Weitzel Garcia is an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where her practice focuses on privacy, data security, and consumer protection issues.
Rebecca has experience representing companies in investigations brought by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state regulators. She has advised clients regarding various privacy laws, including Section 5 of the FTC Act and state comprehensive privacy laws, and consumer protection laws, including the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA). Rebecca has also assisted clients in understanding administrative rulemaking procedures and preparing advocacy on proposed regulations.
Rebecca has a particular affinity for assisting companies who may have child and teen users, having advised companies on the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), state education privacy laws, state social media laws, age verification laws, and proposed bills relating to these topics.
During law school, Rebecca externed with the California Department of Justice’s privacy unit, where she assisted with California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) investigations. She was a fellow with the LawTech Center at the University of Virginia School of Law and a research assistant to Professor Danielle Citron.
