Prior to joining the firm, Michael worked as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, reviewing and examining medical technology patent applications in art unit 3792. He has received training from the USPTO on the standards and practices of applying 101, 112, 102, and 103 rejections, and in particular 101 rejections applied to AI and machine learning systems for the use of diagnostics.
Michael has also spent time shadowing physicians and sitting in on surgical procedures at Tulane Lakeside Hospital, identifying market needs and working with the Tulane Medical School Simulation Center to develop training tools, systems, and methods for medical students.
