Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati received the American Bar Association’s (ABA’s) 2022 Pro Bono Publico Award on August 5, 2022, at the ABA’s annual meeting in Chicago.
This prestigious recognition, which was announced June 1, 2022, is presented annually to individual lawyers and law firms “that have enhanced the human dignity of others by improving or delivering volunteer legal services to our nation's poor and disadvantaged.” This year, two individuals and three law firms nationwide (including Wilson Sonsini) received the Pro Bono Publico Award.
The ABA recognized the firm for its long active civil rights and immigration pro bono work, as well as its increase in scope. Recent highlights include assisting Ukrainian and Afghan refugees, representing one of the largest-ever classes of vulnerable Medicare beneficiaries in a successful trial and affirmance on appeal, and obtaining a historic verdict and $12 million judgment against a former Colombian paramilitary warlord on behalf of family members of an assassinated community activist.
“We are honored and grateful to receive this recognition for our program from the American Bar Association,” said Luke Liss, Pro Bono Partner. “The spirit and energy of our firm community at Wilson Sonsini for pro bono and community service is special, and we will use this as motivation to further increase and hone our efforts to give back and pursue justice.”
Wilson Sonsini thanks the ABA for this recognition, and congratulates fellow 2022 Pro Bono Publico Award winners Maddy Dwertman, Mark Melton, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, and Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. A video prepared by the ABA highlighting the firm’s work is available here.
