On May 6, 2022, Wilson Sonsini prevailed on its request for a permanent injunction and treble damages on behalf of Taiwan-based semiconductor company Cyntec in its patent dispute with Chilisin Electronic Corp. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
The permanent injunction and treble damages order followed Wilson Sonsini’s complete trial victory from September 1, 2021, when a jury unanimously found in favor of Cyntec.
Cyntec and Chilisin are two leading companies in the production of small, high-performance molding chokes (inductors). These chokes are critical to the operation of virtually all mobile devices, including smart phones, tablets, and laptops. The court affirmed the jury’s finding that Chilisin willfully infringed two Cyntec patents, U.S. Patent No. 8,922,312 and U.S. Patent No. 9,481,037, and trebled damages on account of Chilisin’s willful infringement. The court further declared that it would grant Cyntec’s request for a permanent injunction enjoining Chilisin from manufacturing, selling, offering to sell, or importing infringing molded chokes.
The Wilson Sonsini team that represented Cyntec in the litigation included partners James Yoon, Lucy Yen, and Ryan Smith; associates Christopher Mays and Celine Liu; paralegal Bruce Chiang; and support staff Kathy Ramos and Robin Pezzimenti.
