On June 24, 2024, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati once again received a top "A" grade from Law Students for Climate Accountability (LSCA)—a student-led organization that seeks to amplify the roles and responsibilities of the legal industry in our current climate crisis.
The organization recently released its 2024 Law Firm Climate Change Scorecard, which chronicles the climate-related work of the Vault 100 top-ranked firms in the U.S., according to how much clean energy and fossil fuels work they have engaged in from 2019 to 2023. The scores are based on the litigation, transactional, and lobbying work each firm is doing—or not doing—on behalf of clients exacerbating or reducing climate change. The initiative calls on law firms to phase out work related to the development and consumption of fossil fuels and seeks to inform law students concerned about the climate crisis.
For 2024, Wilson Sonsini was one of only a handful of law firms to receive an “A” grade.
"Wilson Sonsini is honored to be the go-to national law firm for visionary companies, investors, and lenders driving industrial transformation to address the pressing challenges of the climate crisis," said Peter Mostow, partner and leader of Wilson Sonsini’s energy and climate solutions (ECS) practice. "Our vision aligns with our clients’ leadership and commitment with respect to advancing technological and financial solutions to the global challenge of decarbonization. We are proud and humbled by the continued recognition of our efforts and thrilled by the talented law students approaching us because of the LSCA Scorecard."
Wilson Sonsini’s ECS practice has 30 years of experience pioneering utility-scale wind and solar industries, helping create residential solar, energy storage, and EV charging industries. We work with project developers and sponsors regarding a broad range of clean and green electrons, molecules, and technologies, from solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear fission and fusion, hydrogen, ammonia and sustainable aviation fuel, storage systems, heating and cooling, cement, and carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration projects. Operating in voluntary and mandatory markets around the world, with both private and public sources of capital, we join our clients in developing decarbonization financial products facilitating all stages of corporate and project development. We do not focus on traditional work for oil and gas developers or vertically-integrated utilities that resist the energy transition, competition, or the climate imperative. As a top-tier, global law firm, we are unique in our mission-driven focus on clean energy, climate solutions and sustainable projects, technologies, and business models.
