On September 18, 2024, in a Wall Street Journal exclusive, Pie, a mobile events app, revealed that it has raised $11.5 million in a Series A financing round, led by Forerunner Ventures and included participation from Ev Williams (a co-founder of Twitter and founder of Medium), Origin Ventures, and Renegade Partners, as well as longtime investor Precursor Ventures. The company has raised $24 million to date.
Launched in 2020, the Pie app allows users to plan their own events, with tools such as polls to agree on a convenient date, and emphasizes meeting new people in a group setting. An AI agent on the app, based on the OpenAI enterprise stack, helps personalize events as well. Pie reports 20,000 monthly active users and is growing 40 percent month over month, according to Pie founder Andy Dunn, who is also co-founder of menswear brand Bonobos.
Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati represented Pie in the financing. The Wilson Sonsini team included Megan Baier, Angela Loc, and Brian Ginsberg.
