On January 17, 2023, Discord, a VoIP and instant messaging social platform, announced that it acquired Gas, a poll-based social app that lets friends share compliments with one another. Gas will continue as a standalone app and the Gas team will be joining Discord to help efforts to continue to grow across new and core audiences. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati represented Gas in the transaction.
Discord is committed to create an inclusive world where no one feels like an outsider while Gas's mission is to uplift and empower each other through positive affirmations. The Verge writes that the acquisition is part of Discord's "broader and continued effort to target communities and users outside of just gaming." Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
