On August 4, 2022, Eneus Energy, a green ammonia project development company, announced a strategic investment from Carlyle and GIC. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati served as legal counsel to Eneus, drawing on the experience of a cross-border team from the firm’s Seattle, San Francisco, and London offices. Taylor Wessing served as special counsel on certain UK tax and other matters.
Eneus’ mission is to support the development of the green hydrogen economy. The capital will finance their development of a 14GW+ pipeline to accelerate energy security and decarbonization solutions. The deal gives Carlyle and GIC the ability to invest more than $3 billion in Eneus’ projects in the next five years.
Founded in 2013, Eneus is among a small cohort of first movers for industrial-scale production plants in a global market for green ammonia and/or green hydrogen that is forecast to grow strongly to 2050, as the world’s leading nations execute their “net zero” carbon strategies. Green ammonia is a zero-carbon fuel in its own right, as well as an important, cost-effective storage and transport energy vector for green hydrogen.
The Wilson Sonsini team that represented Eneus in the transaction was led by Peter Mostow, Hershel Wein, Jason Slagle, James Foster, and Kailey Paglia.
