On May 28, 2024, Los Angeles Business Journal published its 2024 edition of “Women of Influence: Attorneys,” honoring the region's most influential women legal professionals. Wilson Sonsini partners Kathy Ku and Melissa Mills were named among the women attorneys in Los Angeles that have been recognized for exceptional legal skill and achievement.
Kathy, a former clerk to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, is recognized as one of the country’s top deal lawyers. She has advised on transformative tech industry deals including representing cybersecurity firm Mandiant in its $5.4 billion acquisition by Google, Pensando Systems in its $1.9 billion acquisition by AMD and advising on a $690 million investment by Insight Ventures, GIC, and Smash Capital in Coda Payments.
Melissa is recognized as a trial lawyer capable of parachuting into high-stake matters. With her background as a federal prosecutor and military lawyer, Melissa has conducted trials from Los Angeles to Fallujah, Iraq. After joining Wilson Sonsini, she was asked to play a critical role in a case brought by Vanessa Bryant, to whom a jury ultimately awarded $15 million on invasion of privacy and federal civil rights claims. Most recently, she defended a public technology company and its board chair against employment and defamation claims brought by a former executive in a contested arbitration hearing.
