On April 25, 2019, DaVita Inc.—a Fortune 500® health care provider that operates through its two divisions, DaVita Kidney Care and DaVita Medical Group—announced that, by 2022, it expects to use 100 percent renewable energy. The company has contracted with Longroad Energy on two virtual power purchase agreements that will facilitate the development of clean energy projects in Texas, thus generating as much renewable energy as the amount of electricity used by the company's North American operations. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati advised DaVita in the agreements.
DaVita's share of the two projects in Texas—a wind farm and a solar farm—will generate approximately 625,000 megawatt hours of clean energy each year. This energy is the equivalent of avoiding carbon dioxide emissions from the annual electricity use of roughly 52,000 U.S. homes.
The Wilson Sonsini team advising DaVita includes partner Peter Mostow, Of Counsel attorneys Heather Curlee and Lauren Chase, and associates Matthew Bogdan, and Jason Slagle.
