Brussels-based Senior Privacy Counsel Dr. Christopher Kuner has been reappointed to the European Commission’s Multistakeholder Expert Group on the Implementation of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). He was originally selected to serve on the Expert Group in 2018 for a three-year term, and has now been reappointed to serve for three more years. A recognized thought leader in EU data protection law, Christopher was appointed in his personal capacity as an independent academic expert and professor of law and co-chair of the Brussels Privacy Hub at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He is also the author of numerous books and articles on EU data protection law and is editor of the commentary on the GDPR published by Oxford University Press.
The Expert Group is designed to assist the European Commission in identifying potential challenges in the application of the GDPR from the perspective of different stakeholders and advising the EC on how to address them. It also provides the Commission with advice on how to achieve an appropriate level of awareness about the legislation among different stakeholders, including business and citizens, and offers advice and expertise in relation to the preparation of delegated acts and implementation of acts to be adopted under the GDPR.
